How many problems can you spot on
this new home's roofing system?
Roofing leak around plumbing vent
stack. This will rot the plywood over
time or cause mold. In my opinion, its
always better to look at the underside
of the roof before walking on it. When
rotted, it would be easy to put your
foot (and leg) right through this.
This is the type of installation that could
lead to the saturated plywood roof
decking as shown in the photo in the
upper right hand corner. This photo
illustrates an antenna installation on a
plumbing vent. Plumbing vents aren't
designed to provide structural support
of any item, especially those with long
lever arms subject to high wind
conditions.
How not to install a garage door opener.
A homeowners solution to water leakage
around chimney. How many people
would be looking for this during their
walk throughs?
A licensed home inspector would find
this quickly. This type of "repair" has the
potential to cost the next homeowner
substantial money if not repaired
correctly.
Its a rather extreme way to keep from
scratching hardwood floors, but it does
recycle old stinky tennis shoes. If you
haven't seen one of these, it is a folding
ladder that allows attic access.
This two year old home had a hole in the
roof where the roofers failed to get the
shingles installed correctly. I guess they
dont check their work after they are
done. Do you think the city inspector
would have caught this? The simple
answer is no. They do not inspect for
items such as roofs with holes in them.
Attic vent cover blow off? No problem
just insert a 5 gallon bucket into the hole
and apply a liberal amount of silicone
sealant.
I wonder why my yard is so wet, but my
neighbors is always dry. If you have to
choose one of these homes, pick the
one on the left. Although if the retaining
wall caves in, you will be looking at some
big money to replace it (and your
neighbors AC condensor.
